Correlation Between Endorectal MRI and Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) in Cancerous and Normal Prostate

چکیده
Normal Prostate Synopsis: This study determined the relationship of DWI and ADC values between normal and cancer tissue in patients with prostate cancer. 11 patients with biopsy proven cancer were studied by endorectal MRI and DWI. Using a grid system, regions in the prostate gland were denoted as “cancer” and “normal” on T2 images and corresponding ADC values calculated. Results: The difference in mean ADC values for cancer and normal tissue were statistically significant. Conclusion: DWI demonstrates a complimentary role in tumor detection in prostate cancer.

Background: Prostate cancer is the third leading cause of death and is the most common cause of cancer in elderly men. Regarding to the low accuracy of screening methods such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA), Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) and trans rectal ultrasound (TRUS) in detection and localization of tumor, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) attracte...
متن کاملDynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...

AIM To investigate the correlation between signal intensity (SI) on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and the levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in patients with prostate cancer treated with radiation and hormonal therapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS Forty-four patients with prostate cancer treated with hormonal therapy and radiation therapy were evaluated. Areas with high SI on DWI were detec...
متن کاملSignal Intensity of High B-value Diffusion-weighted Imaging for the Detection of Prostate Cancer
Background: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is a main component of multiparametric MRI for prostate cancer detection. Recently, high b value DWI has gained more attention because of its capability for tumor characterization. Objective: To assess based on histopathological findings of transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy as a reference, an...
متن کاملThe Utility of Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) Using Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC) Values in Discriminating Between Prostate Cancer and Normal Tissue
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the utility of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) using Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC) values in discriminating between patients with tumors and normal prostate tissue before the initial systematic core biopsy. The relationship between histological grade of prostate cancer and ADC values in the peripheral zone was also investigated. MATE...
